The Department for Elections & Governance confirms that preliminary enquiries have established that “Bat Moth” is a recognised colloquial name for the Black Witch Moth (Ascalapha odorata), a large species of moth with a wingspan of up to 7 inches, so named as it is frequently mistaken for a bat due to its appearance.
The Department understands that the species is found throughout parts of North, Central and South America, so how a group of them came to be voting in the Employee of the Week ballot at Chester Station is another question for consideration.
Tiggy is currently meeting with Independent Senior Adviser for Constitutional & Strategic Affairs, Luther. They are understood to be reviewing the full wording of the Constitution relating to the eligibility of bats to vote to determine whether or not Station Rats A & B are correct in their assertion that the group of moths are “constitutionally eligible” to participate in the Employee of the Week ballot.
