The Department of Human Behaviour & Statistical Analysis has now completed a full reconciliation of the preliminary Flying Mammal voting figures in the Employee of the Week Vote (week ending 12/06).
Firstly, the Department wishes to correct an earlier estimate suggesting that as many as 64.7% of Flying Mammal votes may have been cast by moths. This has been confirmed as wildly incorrect. The discrepancy arose after Toffee (Junior Data Acquisition Officer) inadvertently included ballot papers from the separate Station Lighting & Illumination Satisfaction Survey, in which moth participation was, perhaps unsurprisingly, high. I have personally spoken to Toffee regarding the matter and she has agreed to revise the Canine Statistical Analysis Syllabus and resit Module 22a, Section 6 (How to Ensure You Are Counting the Correct Ballot Papers).
Following correction of the dataset, the Department can now confirm that the proportion of Flying Mammal ballots cast by moths was 7.7%.
Whilst significantly lower than initially estimated, the Department still considers this figure statistically noteworthy given that the expected proportion of moth participation was approximately zero.
The Department stresses that statistical analysis can establish only what occurred. Whether those moths were constitutionally entitled to vote remains a matter for the Department for Elections & Governance.
